What Does a Book Designer Do?

Your shelves are stuffed with your favorite reads, you follow your most beloved authors and illustrators online, but do you truly know what goes into taking a book from the raw manuscript to the book store?

Join us as we continue celebrating Independent Bookstore Day by learning the life-cycle of a children's book, explained by the design wizards that take the words and pictures and make magic happen! ✨

Moderator Aram Kim of MacMillan (Cat on the Bus; No Kimchi For Me!) will introduce you to Jane Sanders, a periodical designer and author/illustrator of the Whispering Words series, as well as our very own supporter Andrea Miller, a senior designer from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo; Mira Forecasts the Future; Accident!) and an illustrator with The Bright Agency. Together we'll enjoy a cozy chat about what goes into the design process, from art, to fonts, to fun cover treatments like foils and gloss. We'll be treated to a live design of a cover so you can be introduced to the tools of the trade!

Come watch on Sunday 4/29 at 5:30 PM, and get all your questions answered about this integral process that very few book worms know about. 📚
